Community Foundation
Another avenue the CCMA has for promoting community wellbeing is through grants from the Capital City Marathon Endowment Fund. In 2014 the CCMA established the Fund within the Community Foundation of South Puget Sound (they manage and administer the Fund). The Fund grows each year with proceeds from the annual May event. Interest earnings from the Fund provide grant resources. Our Foundation is also set up to accept donations from the public in addition to the Association's contributions.
Grant funds are available to non-profit organizations for projects in the Thurston, Mason and Lewis County areas that focus on healthy living. Possible Projects might include teaching a sport, expanding participation in a sport, creating a new after-school activity, preparing for a competition, etc.
In 2023, CCMA awarded $12,000 split among 6 community organizations:
- Bounty 4 Families – Support of their modified track and field stations at Yelm High School during a free community event
- Every Kid Learns to Bike @ Lydia Hawke Elementary School – Support through purchase of balance bike
- Thurston Co Search and Rescue - Professional, protective, weatherproof, hard-shell jackets for search and rescuers of TCWESAR
